I can’t imagine what Winston Churchill would have said about ‘giving back’
One (supposedly) knows what follows: Giving back to Caesar all the things that are Caesar’s. It usually goes without saying to give credit to whomever deserves it. Though … does it really?
Quoique … vraiment?
I intend no disrespect to fellow bloggers, twitterers but how many can truly say that what they blog, tweet about are 100% genuinely theirs?
Part of my online activity consists in curating data. For that I use Scoop.it, Twitter, Google+, Paper.li and a few others. Sources I select aggregate other people’s posts, articles or tweets, why should I pretend their work is mine?

Sorry if I sound pontificating and patronizing, I know no other way to speak up my mind.
I currently take part in 2 MOOC one of which is about what one can learn using the internet: ITyPA¹. Emphasis is made about implementing a PLE² and how an appropriate network can help achieve that.
All of this is good and fair, let’s just not forget a detail though: a network is as good and relevant as its members’ contributions. Not paying back, not giving credit and I don’t fancy its chances of lasting much long.
Catching my drift ? / Vous voyez ce que je veux dire ?
¹ : Internet, Everything is There for Learning / Internet, tout y est pour apprendre
² : Personal Learning Environment / Environnement d’Apprentissage Personnel
Ha Pascal,
Could we compare writing a blog or another text kind to hacking? Hacking is to use a piece of work and change make it better, it so you can use it yourself. In the maker movement people do know this http://www.huffingtonpost.com/brit-morin/what-is-the-maker-movemen_b_3201977.html
I use hacking in the sense of computer programming. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hacker_%28programmer_subculture%29

Hello Jaap,
My purpose was to emphasize crediting and mentioning others; I know very little about hacking so I could only assume that making something one’s own after having hacked someone else’s work is only fair if whatever was added/changed/modified does something clearly different that couldn’t be obtained otherwise.
Now I’m not sure that whatever I write was not ever written by someone else though, but then again can anybody ever say that? In this regard I’m just saying that a fair search for anything similar should suffice, on the other hand not doing anything, not caring or, worse, copying without giving credit, is not an acceptable option in my humble opinion.
