Last thursday, while driving back home from work, I was thinking of how I could better participate in. Anticipating the coming session I was reflecting on how the first one went (1).
Jeudi dernier, sur la route de retour à la maison depuis le travail, je réfléchissais à comment mieux participer. Par anticipation de la séance à venir je pensais à comment la première s’était passée (2).
Truth be told: I had mixed feelings about the first session, as much about how it went as about its content, the way it was delivered as well as the overall goal. ‘What was that?’ could fairly reflect the impression I was left with.
A vrai dire : j’étais partagé concernant la première séance, autant à propos de comment ça s’était déroulé que sur le contenu, comment il était présenté ainsi que le but général. ‘C’était quoi ça?’ traduirait plutôt bien l’impression que j’en retirais.
Was I alone, I don’t think that’s the point; were my expectations met would be more like it. I guess I started the ITyPA course with preconceived ideas about what a MOOC should be like and about so I was bound to be dissapointed.
Etais-je seul, je ne pense pas que ça soit la question; mes attentes étaient elles comblées le serait. Je pense que j’ai commencé ce cours ITyPA avec des idées préconçues sur ce que devait être un MOOC alors je ne pouvais qu’être déçu.
This said, I’m not about to throw in the towel and the baby out with the bathwater. I expected more directions and more stricter definitions? Actually iIt is for us to set up our own goals. Fair enough. If it turns out I ‘only’ got to meet people and acquaint myself with a few apps and practices I think the game would still be worth playing.
Ceci dit, je ne vais pas jeter l’éponge et le bébé avec l’eau du bain. J’espérais plus de directions et des définitions plus strictes? En fait il nous appartient de définir nos propres buts. D’accord. S’il s’avère que finalement je n’aurai ‘que’ rencontré plus de gens et m’être familiarisé avec quelques applications et des pratiques je pense que le jeu vaut encore le coup d’être joué.
Why this image above and what is it about? Like said earlier I want to take part, I do believe a MOOC is primarily not a top-down way of relaying informations, instructions and lessons hence a framapad dynamic wiki I rapidly set up for a multilateral chat that would parallel the ‘official’ session.
La raison de cette image au-dessus et de quoi s’agit-elle? Comme dit plus tôt, je pense vraiment que un MOOC n’est pas une façon top-down de relayer des informations, des instructions et des leçons d’où un wiki dynamique sous Framapad que j’ai rapidement mis en place pour permettre un chat multilatéral en marge de la session officielle.
The second time around it occurred to me that since a hangout allows, among other things, watching a video on Youtube, a hangout being hosted on Youtube, it had to be possible to make a hangout watching … another hangout.
La deuxième fois il m’est apparu que puisqu’une bulle permet, entre autres, de regarder une vidéo sur Youtube, une bulle étant hébergée sur Youtube, il devait être possible de créer une bulle regardant… une autre bulle.
There were … 2 of us. Deborah finally managed to join me on the hangout.
Nous étions … 2. Deborah réussit finalement à me rejoindre dans la bulle.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts on the MOOC experience as you progress. It certainly is a different way of learning – I’ve just signed up for a six week MOOC called ‘Current Future State of Higher Ed’, also known as #CFHE12. There is no direct ‘path’ for learning, as you said it is not top down, but appears to be driven by the participants. It is not a linear model that is for sure. 🙂

I totally understand! MOOCs are time-consuming. I find that learning the tools to use within the MOOCS is time intensive in itself, for example the CFHE12 uses Diigo which I have not used before, and though it looks easy enough, it takes time to create an account, get familiar with the tool etc. Enjoy your course. I’ll follow your blog too. 🙂

I sure look forward to reading your posts about your own MOOC (because you will post about it won’t you?).
It is rather exciting isn’t it, being able to do all these sophisticated things with just a PC and a connection. Not so long ago it would have required a lot more (money, time and God knows whatever other means) just to do the same.

Yes it is exciting how we can connect with experts and learners from around the world with just our laptops and an Internet connection! Yet it is time, time and more time to invest – yet well worth it in terms of expanding our knowledge base. 🙂 I will be posting for sure about what we learn – this week the topic is Learning Theory and Blended Learning Pedagogy. This Tuesday we have can participate in a webinar with Richard DeMillo, an educator who also is a frequent speaker at Ed Tech conferences – and author of a popular book, Abelard to Apple. I am looking forward to hearing him speak. I’ll keep you posted! 🙂

je souhaiterais, avec gilles et peut être Bernard (mais il reste discret), faire une session hangout de préparation, ne serait-ce que pour en tirer un meilleur profit. Je verrais ça Mardi prochain, voire Mercredi (la veille quoi). Vous en dites quoi?

Pas de soucis, bien évidemment.
Pour la séance de test, je suis d’avis qu’elle est indispensable pour régler les éventuels problèmes techniques. Nous pourrons aussi discuter de l’élaboration d’une carte mentale collective; si nous trouvons le logiciel ad hoc, il serait peut-être intéressant de répartir des rôles pour plus d’efficacité. Je suis a priori disponible sur les 2 jours proposés.
