Starting my BYOD … with a tablet (3) | Débuter mon BYOD* … avec 1 tablette (3)

2nd week of using the tablet at work. Second inspector this time (the other one having taken a week off).

2ème semaine d’utilisation de la tablette au travail. Cette fois-ci avec le deuxième inspecteur (l’autre ayant pris une semaine de vacances).

Since we make use of statistics the purpose of having a tablet was also to record, in a spreasheet,  all along the inspection and not afterward. Spreadsheet implies almost automatically Excel, well maybe not on an iPad as I later found out.

Puisque nous utilisons les statistiques le but d’avoir une tablette était aussi d’enregistrer, dans un tableur, tout au long de  l’inspection et non après coup. Tableur implique presqu’automatiquement Excel, sauf peut être sur un iPad comme je devais m’en rendre compte.

At First I chose Calc Lite … Free. It didn’t take me long before I realized that although I could create and edit spreadsheet right from the app itself there was no way I could do the same with spreadsheet I would have imported. Fair enough I paid the 2€ for the unlimited version.

Au début j’ai choisi Calc Lite … version gratuite. Cela ne m’a pris pris longtemps avant de réaliser que bien que je puisse créer et éditer des tableurs à partir de l’application elle même il ne pouvait en être de même avec n’importe quelle autre table que j’aurais importée. J’ai donc payé les 2€ pour la version illimitée.

I wish I had read the comments attached to Calc Lite. Especially the one about the long awaited feature that would allow one to save one’s table onto Dropbox. Did I say that although it is possible to send documents to a Gmail account and from there open them using Pdf Expert the reverse is not? In order to circuùmvent the issue I picked Dropbox as my exchange platform.

J’aurais souhaité avoir lu les commentaires attachés à Calc Lite. Surtout celle de la fonctionnalité attendue depuis longtemps qui permet de sauvegarder sa table sur Dropbox. Ai-je dit que, s’il est possible d’envoyer des documents à un compte Gmail et à partir de là les ouvrir à l’aide d’experts Pdf, l’inverse ne l’est pas? Afin de contourner le problème j’ai choisi Dropbox comme plate-forme d’échange.

I had no choice but to buy QuickOffice: 15€ (Argh!) but at least it works with several online storage facilities including DropBox. I went too far into this experiment I don’t want to do things by halves.

Je n’avais pas d’autres choix que d’acheter QuickOffice: 15€ (Aïe!) mais au moins ça fonctionne avec plusieurs solutions de stockage en ligne dont DropBox. Je suis allé trop loin dans cette expérience je ne veux pas jouer petit bras.

 

 

The inspector recently sent me loads of drawings and procedures to load up the tablet with. I can see she’s already considering the iPad as a storage facility maybe not, for the time being, so much as a tool to work with.

L’inspectrice m’a récemment envoyé une tonne de plans et de procédures à charger sur la tablette. Je vois qu’elle considère l’iPad plus comme une solution de stockage et peut être pas, encore, tant comme un outil avec lequel travailler.

Next step: making them acquainted with the intricacies of exchanging documents back and forth.

Prochaine étape: les rendre familiers avec les … subtilités des échanges de documents aller et retour.
