This struck me while I was listening to some radio programme this morning: it was about the concept of environmental debt of so called ‘rich’ countries to poor ones (mainly African ones). At some point, probably because I was getting lost in the explanation of the concept itself (mainly based upon monetarization of pollution) I wondered: how does this translate in my life?.
Cela m’a frappé alors que j’écoutais un programme à la radio ce matin: il s’agissait du concept de dette environnemental desdits pays ‘riches’ envers les pays pauvres (principalement Africain). A un certain moment, probablement parce que je perdais pied dans l’explication du concept même (principalement basé sur une monétarisaiton de la pollution) je me suis demandé: comment est-ce que ça se traduit chez moi?
Let’s be honest I don’t know; as much as I sympathise with whatever can do some good to ol’ planet Earth, I don’t expect all that much from those who deliver great speeches about it while not having any problem whatesover to fly from places to places to deliver them.
Honnêtement, j’en sais rien; pour autant que j’ai de la sympathie pour tout ce qui peut faire du bien à cette bonne vieille planète terre, je n’attends pas grand chose de ceux qui font de grands discours à ce propos tout en n’ayant aucun état d’âme à voler de place en place pour les donner.
In my small way I’m just happy that I managed to convince two colleagues to change habit in the way they use emails: Lighter emails, taking up less space on HD, less energy spent, … maybe I understood better than I thought what monetarizing pollution is about 
A mon humble niveau je suis juste contant d’avoir réussi à convaincre 2 colleagues de changer leurs habitude dans leur utilisation de l’email: des emails plus légers, prenant moins d’espace sur les disques durs, moins d’énergie dépensée, … peut être qu’après tout j’ai mieux compris que je pensais ce en quoi consistait la monétarisation de la pollution
